March 15, 2012 concert at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Va., performed as a benefit for the Central and Western Virginia chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Chris Magee is assistant professor of music at Northeast Lakeview College in Universal City, Texas. He comes to San Antonio from Virginia, where he was instructor of trumpet at Radford University and director of the jazz ensemble at Washington and Lee University in Lexington. In addition to his career in teaching, Dr. Magee has enjoyed a successful career as a professional trumpeter. He was principal trumpet with the University-Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra in Lexington and was featured soloist with the orchestra in 2004 and 2009. He was first trumpet and resident arranger with Brass 5, a Yamaha Artist Group in Roanoke. He can be heard on the CD "In My Own Sweet Time" with the jazz group Pandemusicum (pandemusicum.bandcamp.com). Chris was staff trumpeter and arranger at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl! orida from 1984 to 1987, and he has played lead trumpet for artists including The Four Tops, The Temptations, The O'Jays and Wayne Newton. He received bachelor and master of music degrees from James Madison University and the doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Iowa, and studied with James Kluesner, Don Jacoby and David Greenhoe.
